Hello all my bookish and writerly friends! Welcome back to another Spotlight Saturday!
Spotlight Saturday is a weekly feature, created by Josie at Josie’s Book Corner, dedicated to spotlighting and pinpointing some of the things over the week that have caught my attention more than usual, things I’ve particularly loved, etc.
This week I got to obsess over my love of lists with fellow book blogger Jesse @ Books at Dawn. I’ve been following Jesse’s reviews for a while now, and seriously adore all his posts, especially all the tags!!! They satisfy my compulsive need to put things in lists because someone’s already done it for me. And, because I essentially treat Jesse’s tags like curated book lists, my TBR is like the never ending story, it just keeps going on and on. So, in honor of my love of lists, here are some of my all-time favorite tags that Jesse has done.
- Mid Year Book Freak Out
- Emoji’s Galore
- Everybody Love’s Disney
- Totally Didn’t…
- Bookish Things I Need to Quit
Now, when you’re done here, go over to his blog and read them all, lol, just kidding, sort of :-). And btw, if you’re not following Jesse then you totally should because he’s awesome.
This week I loved Joey @ Thoughts and Afterthoughts Top 10 Tuesday post, Book Blogger Habits that are Embraced Despite Reasons. Let’s be fair though, when don’t I love Joey’s TTT? Anyway, the three habits that really resonated with me were:
- The False Hope of Book Before Film
- The Immateriality of Blogging Ideas
- The Itch of Eavesdropping
- Checking Stats
I couldn’t stop laughing during his post, each of these points are basically me in a nutshell.
I really fell behind in reading this week. I am still reading Zeroes in fact. I have the chronic problem of setting unrealistic expectations and then not living up to them when it comes to reading. So despite that, I should be finishing it up today and I will be starting Six of Crows next. Yay for finally joining everyone who is raving about this book!
Last Saturday I took my kids to a Fall Festival and they both got to ride on some really nice horses. Okay, to be fair, Audrey (the four year old) totally rocked it, she said “Giddy up” to the horse before they set off and loved the whole experience! Baby Kevin, (the 1-year old) liked the horses, he liked looking at them, and one even got right up in his grill and got all cuddly with him. But once he was on the horse and they started walking he was all like, “Nope, not happening” so I had to run and get him before disaster struck and it became meltdown town in the heart of Leesburg, Georgia, lol. But overall, we had a ton of fun, hung out with family friends and most importantly got out of the house, which is tough for me because I like to stay at home over the weekend most times. Fun for me, but boring for the littles. I’m working on it.
Hands down, this week I am thankful for the WordPress app. I respond to the majority of blog comments within the app. I love having it to be able to respond quickly/promptly because if I don’t respond soonish, I may forget to, which I hate because I love talking to everyone in the blogosphere.
I have so many favorite songs! Full disclosure: I make playlists based off of my characters, (who they are/their personality/their voice/etc.) for my manuscript. Because of this, I spend the majority of the week immersed in their music to keep my head in the game, so to speak.
Anyhow, I found myself jamming out to Tristan’s playlist for the majority of the week, hit a slump and then switched it up by jumping into Nix’s playlist. OMG, was that like the perfect solution to my momentary rut! So this week, I am spotlighting a Uncover by Zara Larsson from Nix’s setlist. The lyrics are so perfect for how she feels about…things….*contemplating on how much to say* lol.
Nobody sees, nobody knows
We are a secret, can’t be exposed
That’s how it is, that’s how it goes
Far from the others, close to each other
My asylum, my asylum is in your arms
When the world gives heavy burdens
I can bear a thousand times
On your shoulder, on your shoulder
I can reach an endless sky
Feels like paradise
I just love singing this song, so I’m sure that is plays a huge part in why I’m obsessed with it. But also, the meaning behind the lyrics!!! I think my favorite line is “my asylum is in your arms”. Ahhh…I think I just melted into a feels puddle.
This quote helped keep me going this week. I love writing, its definitely my passion, but it also doesn’t come super easily to me all the time. When I’m in doubt, I read this quote and keep pushing forward.
What were your spotlights this week? I’d love to see them, post the link in the comments!
