Ten Bookish Wishes

Welcome back to another Top 10 Tuesday, an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is 10 Wishes I’d Ask The Book Genie To Grant Me.

Now, if only there were an actual genie that could make all my bookish dreams come true. I don’t know, I grew up on Disney so I guess there’s still a part of me that almost believes it could happen. So, just in case, these are the things I’d wish for:

1. Box sets galore!

I would love to have box sets of all my favorite books, but right now, these are my top two picks. I haven’t read the ToG series yet but I have no doubt that I’m going to love it. And the Shatter Me series is my all time fav. Plus these covers are to die for.

2. Meet and collab with my two favorite SCers, Marie Lu and Victoria Aveyard. Fight on!

It really would be awesome to just meet them, but I’d honestly want to know more, like what inspires them, how they approach writing their books, and if they have any tips or words of wisdom for me. And what I think would be just the most amazing thing ever, like “dream come true” status (on top of me being published one day), would be to write a book with both of them.

3. Super fast reading skills

I am such a SLOW reader. Maybe because I savor every line of a book? Really though, I think that’s just what I tell myself to feel better. But I also don’t know how to speed things up without loosing meaning. So, because of my desperate desire to do this:

I really need the genie to help me out. I have too many books that I want to read in THIS lifetime.

4. My dream bookshelf

It’s so beautiful….I wouldn’t mind keeping the dog either. But seriously, I just want a bookshelf that I wouldn’t be embarrassed taking bookish pictures of in the background. My bookshelf is just a hot mess right now, so if the genie wants to help me clean house…

5. Have library holds come through instantly as soon as it’s placed

Because waiting is painful (okay, not really). I love the library, I’d live there if I could. Every time a hold does comes through, I get a text and, I kid you not, I literally skip my way over there because I’m so happy.

6. A reading nook

I don’t know where I’d even put something like this, considering the fact that an adult version would probably be unsightly and really just be an over glorified egg. BUT, if I had a room just for reading, in a my non-existent mansion obviously, then I’d totally go for something like this:

There are more “practical” versions, but they don’t look nearly as comfy. Pretty, but not lounge worthy.

7. All the bookish home decor my little heart desires

I’ve been wanting to flood my apartment with bookish paraphernalia for I don’t even know how long, but I never actually end up doing it. This is mostly because buying any of this stuff is so out of my price range and resolving to make it by hand, while totally possible, is just another time suck that I can’t afford.

8. Some literary style

I see all these tee shirts with book quotes on them, and I think they’re cool and all, but honestly, I’d want to step it up a notch. Some styling bookish threads would be nice.

9. Painless tattoos

Honestly, they don’t have to be painless, if the genie could just make them beautiful and EPIC, that’s all I really want. At some point I’m getting them anyway.

10. Endless supply of Teavanna to go with my bookish mugs

Have you ever tried Teavanna’s Samurai Chai Mate? It’s seriously the bomb! This is the description from their website:

Sweet and spicy infusion of cinnamon and citrus undertones with papaya. The way of the warrior is strength, skill, fairness, mercy, power, energy and balance. Our chai embodies this spirit with an invigorating green mate and green rooibos blend. Cinnamon, anise and cardamom blend with papaya, pineapple, orange and lemongrass- a combination to face every new day samurai-style.Sweet and spicy infusion of cinnamon and citrus undertones with papaya.

Who doesn’t need that to tackle their next readathon? I would pair this amazingness with some book nerd mugs to be sure.

      1. I’ll probably just make one so it can be super custom. Of course that’ll only happen when there are more than 24 hours in a day X-) Lol. I’ll check etsy!

      2. Nice on having the day off!! Woot woot! I’m jelly. The weekend just finished and I’m like, ‘no..where did you go?’.

I work at Albany State University as a Writing Specialist. I legit help people with their writing, lol. Right now my lab has like one student who doesn’t need me so I get to do my own thing. It’s nice because I get to write a ton.

      3. It depends on the day honestly.

The worst is when I have students coming in who want me to fix their papers for them. In my mind I’m thinking, “Really? You know people charge like .20 cents a word to do what you’re asking me to do right now. I don’t get paid enough to turn your F into an A. If you want to improve, you’re gonna have to sit right on down and learn something for once.” And of course I say none of that, but one of these days man, these kids are gonna push me too far.

I love it though when a student says, “I need help and I am struggling with (blah). What do you think I can do?”
Now that is what I get paid for. And THAT is what I love about my job, teaching others and helping them become more confident in their own gifts with writing.

I also love when students mistake me for being a student and they think I’m just sitting in for the actual Writing Specialist, like the real one is going to come back and I’m her tutor or something. The look on their faces when I tell them that I am the WS is priceless. That shit just makes me giggle. And makes me feel less old, bc I’m telling you, have kids and you literally age ten years past what you really are. X-)

      4. Students should want to learn from their mistakes. Not have someone do all the work for them. That’s not what’s going to take them far in life. Tsk tsk.

There are no kids in my immediate future I assure you 😛

  1. This is me reading.

“I want this. And this. And this.”

But a definite yes to wishing I was a quick reader. Like you, I have so much I need to read, but not enough hours in the day!

And I want those bookish mugs. I keep looking but will really have to go to some specialist sites/hope Santa thinks I’ve been good 😉

    Lovely post, Nicolette 😊

    1. Thanks Beverly!! I’m pretty sure we could find all the bookish mugs on Etsy, I haven’t bothered to look though because I just can’t do that to my bank account, lol! But I’m sure someone on Etsy is selling these items! Lol.

  2. Ah! I love #3 and I totally get you because I’m the slowest reader on earth, too! Though, I suppose I don’t mind it because I feel that I can savor the book and get more out of it than people who just blaze right on through (and you hear about the crazies that SKIP parts! 0.0)

Haha! #4! I love the part about a nice-looking bookshelf. I get that! Even when my books were on a shelf I hated looking at it because it was such a hodge-podge. I like it when the shelf looks nice.

AH! Some of your decor defaced the books! *Dies*

Oo! Those are some pretty snazzy bookish tattoos! I think it’d be cool, but I’d never be able to decide what bookish tattoo I’d want. There’s too many options! *sigh*

Teavana! (so expensive 0.0 but sooo good. *melts*) And I love your mugs! Are those ACTUALLY your mugs? They’re super cool! I have one like the grim from HP that my sister-in-law made me. Love it! (Super jealous of artsy people. :p)

    1. I literally had the hardest time picking just two pictures for the bookish tattoos because of how many options there are!!! Lol, I can’t imagine actually trying to pick for the real thing!! X-)
And I KNOW!!!! Teavanna is cruelly expensive, which is why I need that stinkin’ genie! Lol 😛
I’ve painted two mugs, one for my hubby and one for my bff but haven’t done the bookish mugs yet. I really want to though bc of their sheer cuteness!

      1. Haha! If you get that genie to pass you some Teavana, I hope you’ll be sharin’ it with lil’ ol’ me. ^.^

What?! You paint?! That’s so cool! I’m super incapable of crafts. :p You should definitely do that. People would fawn over you if you made those (like literally every bookish nerd EVERYWHERE. hee hee)

      2. I will def share, bc sharing is caring and us writers gotta stick together! Lol.
I keep thinking about painting stuff, I hand-made everyone’s Christmas gifts last year bc well budget, and it was crazy time consuming. It was fun, but IDK if I am down for the time suck of it. Then again, earning some side cash would be nice. What would you pay, like in all seriousness for a bookish mug, bc etsy stuff is crazy expensive, you know?

  3. Painless yet REMOVABLE tattoos would be most amazing haha. Being able to collab with any authors they love must be any writer’s dream! Great list!

    1. Removable would be good too, I wish I had thought of that!!! I don’t have any tattoos (yet) and have no idea when I’ll be getting them if ever, but I do like looking at them! Lol X-)

  4. OMG I love love love those book nooks! A chair where yout books are only inches from you sounds lazy but awesome! And those literary styels are just to die for! Well my ultimate genie wish is to have a big pile of money to give me access on all these luxuries lol 🙂

    1. YASS! MONEY!! That was going to be my first wish, and then I realized that my list would then stop at #1, lol, so I drew it out! X)
I have a pair of white shoes that I’ve been planning on painting with bookish stuff and I still haven’t gotten around to doing it. I painted a pair of custom kicks for my daughter last year for Christmas and fooled myself into thinking I would do a pair for myself, lol!

      1. OMG show it pretty please (tweeter or here maybe?)! I’m seriously in high awe of your artistic skills, Nic. I can’t even properly hold a paintbrush!
