Who Said Books Weren’t Sexy?

Welcome back to another Top 10 Tuesday,Β an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish.Β This week’s topic is a Halloween Themed Freebie.Β So naturally I took this as my cue to bust out the most badass, most gorgeous, most daringly sexy bookish costumes I could find. Is today’s post basically a compilation/vision boardΒ of all the costumes I want to wear this year? Yeah, pretty much. πŸ˜› So let’s get right to it!

1. Rylee Adamson from the Tracker series by Shannon Mayer

Because who doesn’t want to carry two katanas on their back?

2. Khalessi from the Song of Ice and Fire series

I’d never be able to pull off the bright blonde in a million years, trust me I know this from experience *cringe*, but obviously the fair skinned lovelies of the world can nail this one! πŸ˜€

3. Katniss Everdeen from the Hunger Games Trilogy

It’s become obvious to me that I want an excuse to carry around weaponry. *shrugs*

4. Celia from Night Circus

I may not have been the biggest fan of Celia. I was Team Marco in case your wondering. But I think dressing up as a ring master would be pretty sweet. Anyone have a top hat I can borrow?

P.S. There is a cane, again, this costume would satisfy my need for props.

5. Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter Series

The utter cuteness of this is too much! I love it. I feel like this costume would be fairly easy to make with normal people clothes and some pre-planning in terms of a quick trip to the fabric shop for some gold and crimson ribbon.

6. Celaena from A Throne of Glass

Haven’t read the books yet. I’ll get there. But this is seriously awesome! Because…well… swords!

7. Belle

The original bookworm! If only I had kept my Belle costume from high school when I played her for the school play….

8. Tris from the Divergent series

This would be a super easy costume if you’ve got some drawing skills. Throw on a black tank, and bust outΒ your black eyeliner. If you don’t have drawing skills like me, then it’d print out the birds, outline them in the black liner and then press the image onto your skin to get a faint impression, a friend helping you out here would be great. Once you get a faint outline, fill your birds in. Sort of like adult coloring books but upping the ante!

9. Effie from the Hunger Games series

I highly overestimate my make-up skills. I WISH I had the prowess to do this.Β I think I like the idea of doing this rather than accepting that the execution would be horrendous. I would ruin it, I’m sure. I may still try it, just to prove to myself that I should never try it again πŸ˜€

10. Max from Where the Wild Things Are

If it’s cold where you are, then covering up is a necessity for Halloween. I like the idea of being able to wear a grey sweatsuit and simply adding some accents to make things monsterly. Plus, her eye makeup is sweet, so there is always that!

Well that was fun! I’m still not sure what I’ll be doing for Halloween in terms of dressing up. But at least I have a ton of options! πŸ˜€

Did you get any ideas from my list? What are your plans for Halloween this year? Let me know!

  1. Ooh, nice costumes, Nicolette! Even though I adore Halloween I generally stay in now and live vicariously through all the little-ies knocking at my door πŸ‘» Quite a few years back I went to the ultimate party – Anne Rice’s Vampire Lestat Halloween Ball in New Orleans. The costumes there were phenomenal! I sported a very daring pvc number πŸ˜‰

    1. Since both my kids are small, I have a wonderful excuse to still dress up and go out trick or treating! Lol!! πŸ˜‰ I haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet though, too many decisions and so little time! 😁

    1. I went to the store the other day thinking I knew what supplies I was going to pick up for my costume, and then I looked around and the overload of choices made me back away slowly. Now I once more don’t know what I’m going to be.

The Effie costume is gorg. But I don’t even know if I could pull off Effie properly, even with ivory toned makeup and the wig. Ugh… I’m sooo conflicted *hids in a corner* LOL.

      1. I think you could totally rock the Effie costume! All you need is a gaudy dress, a colorful wig and dubious amounts of outrageous make up! Think of it like dressing like a drag queen but more feminine then manly xD

      2. OMG!!! I had to stop myself from busting out laughing in my office! (Would have scared the student in here.) That’s the best advice ever. I promise, I’m going to go home and try to figure this one out! πŸ˜€ “like dressing like a drag queen but more feminine then manly” best line ever!!!!

  2. Wait we need an excuse to run around with weaponry? No wonder I’ve been getting such weird look!

JK! But this is an awesome list. Whatever you decide, please share! And Happy Halloween!

    1. Lol! I know right!?!?! Me too, just kidding, though why we moved away from being allowed to carry swords I’ll never understand…
I’ll share for sure, hopefully it’s shareworthy! πŸ™‚ Happy Halloween to you too!

      1. Funny random tidbit. In Maryland legislature, it still says that certain men are required to carry around a saber. (Though obviously no one does lol)

        Silly forgotten laws…

      2. OMG, that’s oddly awesome to me! Silly forgotten laws are the best. I hate the awful ones though, like the it’s okay to beat your wife with a stick this big on Thursday, I’m pretty sure that was legal somewhere until they did away with it…*shrugs*

    1. Jesse thinks I can pull if off, I’m dubious bc I feel like I’d ruin it! Lol! Or end up looking like a fluffy clown πŸ˜† but done right it would rock. I’m considering doing Pocahontas and rely on my long hair to carry the costume, lol. I have two things to go to with my kids so in the best scenario I would have two different costumes.. But I’m running out of time and I’m such a procrastinator, πŸ™ˆ!

      1. I wish we celebrated Halloween in Australia. It seems like so much fun! But at the same time, I’m sure I’d be too lazy to come up with ideas and actually dress up. It must be so much fun to do Halloween with your kids though!

      2. Awww, I didn’t know Australia didn’t do Halloween at all 😒 what a bummer! I always end up with too many ideas and then am too lazy to dress up lol so I know what your talking about. I think I like the idea of doing it more than the actual effort of execution! And the kids really bring life to the holiday for sure! This year Audrey is going as Belle and we’re dressing the baby in a fluffy animal suit so we can pass him off as the Beast! πŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ˜

      3. I guess some people do throw Halloween parties but there’s no trick or treating or anything like that. I feel like I’d be on Pinterest for hours looking for costume ideas… but then know that they’d never be achievable for me HAHA. Kinda like the Effie one πŸ™‚

AWWWW that would be adorable!!! Pretty much any animal suit would be awesome. I’m imagining him as Simba in a lion costume πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

      4. Oh I see. So some potential for dress up but the trick or treating is half the fun. Yes! I have been on Pinterest for hours bc I got it into my head that if I could dress the I could do cool make up. *smh* nope those make up designs are too good. Lol!
I’ll post pics of the kids in the costumes so you can enjoy the cuteness with me!

  3. Being Max from Where The Wild Things Are is such a cute idea! I’m not doing anything for Halloween this year. It’s so sad. I recently moved back home after graduating, and there’s not much doing on here. I tried to find fun Halloween activities for grown ups but there was nothing. Sadness. Also typing ‘adult Halloween’ into Google is not something I would recommend. Live and learn.

    1. Omg! I laughed so hard about the adult Halloween Google search! It wasn’t until you said bad idea that I realized how catastrophic that could be. I’m sure I would have done the same thing not expecting anything, πŸ™ˆ
I wanted to do a million things for Halloween this year and then life…I did take my kids trick or treating though and they loved that. But I was sad that I didn’t dress up like I had wanted.

      1. It really was. I’m glad at least your kids had a good time! My neighbour took his kids out and mostly encountered people who were not participating in trick or treat fun. In the end he had to take them to grandma’s to fill up on sweets.

      2. That’s funny because that is exactly what we did. I mean, we were already there in the grandparents’ neighborhood to trick-or-treat, but it was dead town out there. So gramps and grandma had to make up for it πŸ˜‰
