Ten Authors That Need To Hurry Up Already

It is a truth universally acknowledged that waiting for the next book in a series is agonizingly painful. Every book dragon in the history of ever knows what I’m talking about. This is a fact. I checked. Think I’m lying? Go ahead. Check for yourself. Okay, hold up there, sparky. Don’t actually go check. Yes, I made it up. But it sounds good. Amiright?

When I’m done reading a book that is “OMG this destroyed me. It literally took my heart and stomped on it” good, naturally, I rush to check if it is part of a series and when the next one will be released.  Isn’t it the worst, doesn’t a little part of your soul crumble into tiny irreparable pieces when you learn the truth? That you have to wait and entire year for the next one. Doesn’t it feel like an elephant in a purple suit holding onto a pumpkin has sat on your chest? (Not sure what the purple suit has anything to do with it, but it’s crushing.) Waiting that long to know what happens next is like:

dying a little inside

I know you know this pain. (Maybe we should have a support group. Oh wait…we do, we blog about it! Never mind.)

I needed each one of these books in my grabby hands, like, yesterday. I’m not even kidding. But it’s okay. I’ll be fine. I can wait. If we could send our fav authors care packages, do you think they would finish their books any faster? I wonder….)

Let’s Talk

What sequels are you dying in wait for? Oh!! And just how excited are you that February is only three months away?!?!

This is strategic marketing. I’m convinced. This gives Victoria Aveyard enough time to break my heart and gives my husband enough time to put it back together again, all in time for Valentines day. (Yes, I think of these things. Yes, this is perfectly normal. Yes, I know I’m strange.)

  1. I have to stop reading your posts. Because every time I do there’s a whole list of other word-shinies for my list *sobs* Just as an aside, Six of Crows is MINE next time I’m in a book store 😈

I’m not-so-patiently waiting for the next GRRM, The Winds of Winter, which is rumoured to be next year. Ha! Let’s see how true that is…

Hoping that maybe one day my name might be on your list 😉 (book 2 in editing phase right now!)

    1. That’s the hope we all have, that one day our bookish friends will be listing us in their “I’m dying without the sequel” lists! Lol. At least that’s my not so secret desire! Lol 🙂

  2. YES YES PRODIGY SERIES. Hehe, I had a feeling it’d pop up on this post and so glad that it did! The series needs more love. Everyone must know about it.

Oh, and did you like Six of Crows? EVERYONE adores it so far, and it’s available to be read in the library. Hmmmmm. 🙂

    1. ALL THE YESSES!!! I did read it and have been struggling with my review because how do I write a review about a book that so totally made all books in the history of ever pale in comparison. “I adored it. I loved everyone.” This is my entire review so far. Two sentences that barely quality as sentences. OMG though, KAZ! That’s all I’m gonna say to keep this comment unspoilery. And MATHIAS. Loved them. 😀

And I am in agreement. GAMBIT needs way way more love. Like a million times more bc it’s so awesome.

      1. HAhA I know the feeling, I do! I think my review for Gambit took me 4 days and 294875353495 revisions. I just wanted EVERYONE TO GET ON BOARD but how. XD

        OOH! Well I suppose those names will have significance soon! 😉 I should read it and join in on the hype and fun. ;_;

      2. OMG, you’ll love SOC. And I was supposed to be writing my review of Gambit today, but instead I made one of those ‘character grid’ things because (1) procrastinating (2) people should see how attractive Reece is and (3) needed an excuse to test my Illustrator skills some more. So now that the graphics are made, I have zero excuse not the write the review bc it’s soo freaking goood! I am having trouble writing my review for both of these books. Lol.

      3. Ah I’m sure I will! ^__^
Ooooh character grid? I can’t wait to see that! c: Yes Reece, oh my gosh. HGNHHHH
I can’t wait to read your review, Nicolette!! ❤

  3. Oh yes, I hate waiting for the next book in a good series. On the other hand, there’s so much to read and so little time it’s sometimes good I know I can’t get my hands on the next part in a while. It gives other books and series a chance. Right now I’m waiting eagerly for The Swallow’s Tower which is part of The Witcher saga. It’s been out since 1997 but the English translation is lagging waaay behind. And after that I’ll have to wait another year for the final part…

    1. It’s so hard to wait, especially when other things are getting in the way such as translations! 😀 I’ll have to check out this series though, if you’re willing to wait so long, it must be good!!! 🙂

      1. You definitely should! The story is very mature and complex, and the characters are amazing. I recommend starting from The Last Wish, which is a collection of short stories set before the actual saga.

    1. OMG, SOC#2 releases on your birthday!!! That’s like the best present ever. (Or it would be for me.) You’ll love it. I’m sure you will ADORE all the characters, they are so complex. Ugh….I will not spoil, I will not spoil….I will not spoil…..(but I want to so bad it’s so good!)
And random side note, I ordered Illuminae and it came in yesterday. The dedication page is to Nic, who tells the best stories. I read it aloud to my husband and said, “Yep, I’m totally going to take credit for this. It’s dedicated to me.” And he just shook his head at me, lol, the amount of crazy he deals with from me X-D

      1. Illuminae has names of real people in it!! I spotted Laini Taylor, Kat Kennedy and Little Book Owl. There’s a casualty list that spans multiple pages and it was super fun to look at the names! So I wouldn’t be surprised if Nic was you XD

    2. So “Empire of Crows” was apparently a placeholder title for SOC2, the real title is Crooked Kingdom, Leigh just announced it yesterday. I updated it here in this post but I also wanted to share with you in case you didn’t see the announcement. Also, the youtube video for the reveal was pretty darn cool. 😀

      1. I know! I liked the place holder title too! Crooked Kingdom doesn’t sound like its part of the series. I guess I’m just so used to sequels having a similar sounding name to the 1st book. There is that rhythm that is lost now that it’s Crooked Kingdom. I included the video as part of my review for SOC which posts on Monday, so if you don’t find it, it’ll be there in my review 😊

    1. I just finished writing up my review (yes I FINALLY managed to get my thoughts straight) and I made some fan art for REece and Willow, like omfgimsoexcited! I linked to your review too so people know that the book is seriously good, lol!

And yes, I will totally freak! Like hard core freak out!!! I’m already freaking out in fact!!! Lol *end fangirl*

      1. Yeah! I want to start linking out more to increase awareness of great books, or great bloggers (such as yourself ❤️). It’s tough though bc sometimes I forget or don’t remember who posted what. I need to get more organized! 😊

      2. Aw! You need to stop with the compliments! People are giving me too many compliments and soon my ego won’t be able to ride shotgun any more. :p

But I agree. There are some great books and great bloggers, which is why I love tags and awards. It allows me to pass off the cup to other people that I think are awesome. (I just wish I could tag more people in the awards. *sigh*)

      3. “People are giving me too many compliments and soon my ego won’t be able to ride shotgun any more” That made me laugh so hard! I love that expression, I’m totally going to use that one day if/when the occasion ever arises!!! That was great! 🙂
I love tags too! I find myself wanting to do them more than reviews and I hold back because I don’t want my blog filled with just tags. There has to be a balance. But then again, at some point I’m sure I’m going to toss that out the window and saw what the hell, who cares that the blog is full of tags! Lol!

      4. Bahaha! I’m glad you liked it. :p I thought it was quite funny myself. Hee hee!

Haha! I love tags, but I wait until someone tags me because then it feels more official. Also, it prevents me from over-tagging. I do need to leave time for all my other time-consuming posts. (That and I haven’t read enough books to do most of the tags. :p)

      5. I feel the same way! I want to do all the tags and then I get tagged and I sit here like, “You don’t read nearly enough to do this, why oh why can’t you read faster!?!?!”

      6. Tell me about it! And I mean I didn’t do hardly any reading in college or since I’ve gotten out of college and now I feel like I’m scrambling to catch up on all the books and series and hype that I missed out on, ya know?

      7. I do know! Trust me I know! I wasted college so hard! Like all that time I could have been reading and writing… I’m scrambling to catch up too but it’s so hard! Lol. #thestruggleisreal

  4. STORY OF MY LIFE!!! I’m totally looking forward to A Rose and the Dagger, A Torch and the Night, and A Court of Mist and Fury. I still haven’t made up my mind about how I feel about Red Queen, though. Like, SO MANY FEELS!!! I will still be reading Glass Sword. How could I not???

    1. Red Queen destroyed me!!! Lol. I binged it until like 2am, completely disregarded the fact that I had work the next day bc I didn’t expect…well… you know…THAT! Since leaving it though so many of the details have gone to the wayside so I feel I should reread (which I never do) so I can remember that feeling of OMG at the end of it and then move right into the next.
But idk, the TBR is infinitely long, probably will never reread a book in my life, which is unfortunate. I totally feel you about Rose and Dagger and Torch Against the Night! Like, so many unanswered questions! I didn’t know either were going to have sequels when I read them and when I realized everything wasn’t wrapping up for a stand alone my heart flew into my throat.

      1. YES!!! That is totally what I should do! A reread would be a fantastic idea. I don’t know if I’ll do it, though, I always say things like that and then never get around to them haha.
AGAIN YES!!! I was like, “Wait a sec. WHAAAAAAAAT!?!” I definitely need the sequels! Especially The Rose and the Dagger; I really loved The Wrath and the Dawn.

  5. Let me just say, I loved the beginning of your post. And yes, I do believe it is a truth universally acknowledged. Jane Austen would agree. And I absolutely cannot wait for The Rose & the Dagger (along with A Torch Against the Night, but we already discussed this).
