I love Bree! She is my online soul sister!

Thank you so much Bree for nominating me for this award! It really means so much to me coming from you! *A thousand hugs*

Seriously, she is awesome, you should go check out her blog @ Live. Learn. Write. She is a wonderfully talented writer too and writes super encouraging writerly posts!

I also want to thank my newest online bestie, Trisha Ann @ The Bookgasm. I love getting all fan-girly with her. She is really funny and super genuine. Like an all around really awesome person. Go to her blog, follow her, she’s amazing. You won’t regret it!

Standard Issue Rules Here:
1. You must thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
2. You must list the rules and display the award.
3. You must add 7 facts about yourself.
4. You must nominate 5 other bloggers and comment on one of their posts to let them know they have been nominated.

7 Facts About Me:

1. I am very honest, almost to the point of brutal.

It depends on the situation. I am not a judgmental person. I’ve run the gamut of making mistakes made in life, so if you’ve got something going on, you won’t get no judgment from me. But I am harsh when it comes to criticism of things I expect to be done well. If I don’t like the way something has turned out, then I will say so straight up and list reasons why it’s awful. This is really particular to business. I am cutthroat when it comes to business stuff. Ask any of my friends from college, they ALL can attest to this.

2. I cannot leave the house without my sunglasses.

I think this might have something to do with the fact that I went to college in Southern California and since the weather is always sunny I got into the habit of wearing them all the time. I’m not really sure, but now I literally cannot walk out of the house without them. If I do, I feel like a bat coming out into the daylight from its cave. No bueno.

3. I am a perfectionist.

I’m really bad at overcommitting myself because I think I can do everything. (Not necessarily because I think I can do it well, mind you, I just always want to help in some way and because I want to.) Also, when I latch onto a project, I will go full force until I collapse under the pressure I put on myself or until I literally get sick, whichever comes first. Sometimes both happens at once. I try to stop myself from going over the top, but it’s very difficult for me to reign in the enthusiasm for something. If I think I can finish a project, I want to do just that, finish it, even if that means staying up all night to do so.

4. I’m terrified of failure.

There is so much that I want to get done, so much that I want to accomplish and deep down I fear that if I don’t keep pushing hard, I’ll never find this momentum again and I’ll just end up failing. And really, that is the scariest part for me. Failing before I have really even begun. I know this is a mental block, that continuing to work and pursue our dreams is what it’s all about, and this fear is something I need to overcome. I’m working on it. It’s tough, but hey, it a fact that I struggle with this.

5. My favorite food is Sushi.

I’m literally salivating just thinking about it. I love cooked or raw sushi. The first time I tried sushi was when my family and I lived in Japan when I was a little girl. I think the first roll I had was a Cali roll. Hmmm… so many levels of yum. I would eat sushi every day for lunch and dinner if my budget allowed me to. Since it doesn’t, I have sushi once every few months. When I lived in LA this was a much simpler task to accomplish because we found a sushi place that wasn’t devilishly expensive. But here in Albany? Ha, good luck with that!

6. I believe in equality.

It’s as simple as that. I think we should all be treated fairly and as humans regardless of our gender, orientation, skin color, etc. It actually does grind my gears when one group of people is trying to bring down another. Like, that’s just not okay. In what universe is that ever okay? The injustices of this world deeply trouble me.

7. I married my college sweetheart.

I met Kevin my freshman year of college in Calculus class. (I went to college to be an engineer before switching my Junior year to Creative Writing.) We started dating 2nd semester of freshman year, dated throughout college and then got married the summer before our super senior semester. During that semester, our daughter was born (she is now 4) and 16 months ago, we had a son, Kevin Jr.

  1. Awww such a sweet description! Thanks bestie! 😀
Oh my goodness! You lived in Japan before! I wouldn’t trade such a chance for the world! And yay! We’re sushi buddies! I prefer cooked though 😀
Wow! Such an inspiring love journey you got there with your husband. Relationships nowadays exist momentarily.

    1. I also for the most part prefer cooked sushi, only venturing out to yellow tail and salmon and tuna but if it were a good place that I could trust the source then I’d be down to try other raw. My fav will always be a Cali crunch roll though! Lol😆
I got super lucky finding Kev. At the time I thought everyone met the love of their life in college, it wasn’t until a few years in that I realized how wrong I was, and how crazy lucky I was to have found that someone at such a young age. It happens, but it’s super rare. Relationships these days really are so temporary, which makes me sad.
And omg yes! I loved Japan as a child! We left when right before I turned 11 but I consider it home similar to LA. I would love to go back and live there again. So many many good happy memories!

  2. Thanks for the nomination, Nicolette! (You’re right, I have done this recently but I can totally do a round 2 one day… I just don’t have that many interesting things to share XD )
Omg I love sushi too! My brother is a sushi chef so I have it quite often.. but it’s something that I’ll never get sick of! I’m so jealous of everyone living in Japan who gets to have sushi for cheap prices. It’s like 120-150 yen per plate at sushi train? I have to pay $3.50 here for the most simple mini cucumber-only maki rolls. IT’S SO NOT FAIR.

    1. OMG!!! Your brother is a sushi chef?!?!? Best brother in the history of ever award! (Random side note, I think it’s adorable when siblings talk about their other siblings, I grew up an only child and never got to know the pains and joys of having a brother or sister. It always warms my heart when someone says “my bother this” or “my sister that”. *End randoness)
I forget what the exchange rate for yen to US dollars is but at the mention of yen you made me so nostalgic for my childhood and growing up in Okinawa! Ahh, I miss it. I’d go back in a heartbeat for so many reasons, sushi for sure being one of them but I adored my experience in Okinawa as a child!
And your welcome for the nom. I knew you had already done it but, you know, I wanted to send out some extra love your way! And your a mighty interesting lovely my dear, so I happen to disagree with you on not having many interesting things to share! I could chat with you all day!😍

      1. Haha I actually don’t know that much about my brother… apart from the sushi and the constant gaming. And the fact that he’s had a girlfriend for 4 years and we’ve never met her (no idea if they’re even still together). Sometimes I wish I had more than one sibling. I want to be a person who has lots of talk about.. like “my brother this, my sister that, my other sister this”. But at the same time I don’t think I could survive with extra siblings and extra noise.

        Aww thanks ❤ ❤ ❤

  3. What?! You’re a perfectionist! 😉

Loved reading more about you outside the writing/blog-o-sphere. If we ever do meet IRL (which will hopefully happen someday!), we can discuss equality and the fear of failure over sushi! And congrats on the new(ish) addition to your family!

  4. Thank you so much for the nomination, lovely 💜 I will get to it this week sometime!

Loved reading these little facts about you and can relate to a lot, particularly the perfectionism and the fear of failure.

I’m not a huge sushi lover but my 5 year old grandson *loves* it. True fact. A few months back we were sitting in a coffee bar. He was eating vegetable sushi and I was eating a kid’s ham sandwich 😉

    1. What a little cutie pie!!! OMG, I want him to meet my Audrey and they can be BFFs for life! Lol.
It was tough writing up the facts, I was in a sort of dark-ish place but as I was writing them I was like, “you know, all these things about me may not be pretty, but it’s the gods honest truth, so I’m gonna do it”. Thank you for appreciating my candor!

      1. They have such sophisticated tastes. What happened to jam sandwiches? 😉 He’s going through a ‘ugh, girls’ phase right now but if she likes Minions he’ll be won over!

I understand about the way the dark places insist on poking their heads out. But we need them, to balance out our light, and it’s what makes us, *us*.

        I’m not running anywhere 😊

      2. *Hearts and hugs to you* P.S. Aubrey, you’re artist is crazy talented, I just stopped by over there and fangirled like crazy. Now she’s gonna think I’m some psycho chic, lol!
