“Oh, The Weather Outside is Frightful, But My Book is So Delightful”

“And since we’ve no place to go, let me read, let me read, let me read…” *sigh* I’ll get these songs right one of these days. Until then, join me as I cuddle up with the Fall Time Cozy Book Tag!

I just love the Fall. There’s something magical in the air when the leaves turn their pretty reds and oranges, when the wind hugs your skin in a harsh winter kiss and the crispness of the air is the freshest you’ve breathed since last Fall.

Right now, in Georgia, the weather has turned decidedly cold and I’ve broken out my blue peacoat, my beloved cardinal and gold scarf and my little black mittens that make me feel like my hands belong to a child. In addition to cuddling up with a book this Fall season, I look forward to snuggling on the couch with my hubby, tightly swaddled in my favorite purple blanket while we veg out on Supernatural until our “we’re too old to marathon shows anymore” bed time.

Thank you Joey @ Thoughts and Afterthoughts for tagging me, even though I’m super late and Fall is almost over ^.^

Crunching Leaves:

The world is full of color. Choose a book that has reds, oranges and yellows on the cover.

The cover of Illuminae is gorgeous, it was that and the raving reviews that made me want the book so much. (Yep, I’m a shallow bookworm and definitely do judge books by their covers.) Let me tell you, this book is even more awesome in person. I haven’t started reading it yet, but it’s high on my priority list! Plus, the dedication says it’s for Nic….clearly the authors meant me. ^.^

Cozy Sweater:

It’s finally cold enough to don warm cosy clothing. What book gives you the warm fuzzies?

hp-philosopherHarry Potter will always give me the fuzzies. I have so much love for this series. It was quite literally my entire childhood. I aged with Harry (along with so many of you book dragons) and I’ll never forget the magic that HP sparked in my heart.

Fall Storm:

The wind is howling and the rain is pounding. Choose your favorite book OR genre that you like to read on a stormy day.

I don’t re-read much or, rather, at all. Considering that it storms often here and the simple fact that I read all the time, it’s safe to say that when it does storm, I’m reading either a fantasy or a dystopia.

Cool Crisp Air:

Who’s the coolest character you’d want to trade places with?

Because I’m so unhappy with my own life?!?! I don’t understand this question at all. Most of the characters I read, despite their coolness, I wouldn’t trade places with them. But, hang out with them? Yeah, sure, why not?

The coolest character around the block to me is Mustang from Red Rising. I like her snark, her smirk and her overall badassery. I definitely wouldn’t want her life though.

Hot Apple Cider:

What under hyped book do you want to see become the next biggest, hottest thing?

Omg, please just go read Gambit. I can’t talk about this book enough. This book has so many elements to it that my review just doesn’t do justice because I couldn’t turn off fangirl mode, but seriously, the commentary on society is subtle and excellent. Willow is so headstrong and her narrative is so genuine, I love her!

*Rolls on floor in agony* Please read this book!! ^.^

Coat, Scarves and Mittens:

The weather has turned cold and it’s time to cover up. What’s the most embarrassing book cover you own that you like to keep hidden in public?

Ahh, yes, that would have to be all the adult/erotica I read. Lol, I’m just messing with you. I did most recently get rid of the book that would have fit this category though. I don’t know if I would have been embarrassed necessarily as much as hoping I wouldn’t have to explain the pretty white lady on the cover and the title “It’s Rising Time”. It was a finance book, okay!! Don’t be getting any ideas over there! Lol. But I was never going to read it, so out it went.

Pumpkin Spice:

What’s your favourite fall time comfort food/foods?

I love me some stuffing. My mom has a killer recipe that I mimic every year. Basically the secret is corn bread and that’s all I’m going to share! Lol. No, I’ll share if you really want me to. The caveat is I don’t actually follow a recipe. I learned how to cook from my mom and she learned from her dad who was the lead cook for a local restaurant in San Antonio, Texas. Suffice to say, that’s how I cook too, it’s all from the heart ^.^

      1. Yeah! Absolutely! I have some really great blogging friends that I’ve found and I try to push their content as much as I can either here or on Twitter! I’m glad you have found people you enjoy following through me! 🎉

  1. Cardinal and gold scarf a la Gryffindor scarf?? OMG ME WANT ONE! I was gonna get one when I went to Japan but there’s just too many people in HP World. Cryyy!

Hey if you have time and you’re interested, Joan @ Fiddler Blue is having this Let’s Write a Story Together thing. Theme is 17 years after Harry Potter! I figured you’ll love this since you’re a writer and a Potterhead 😀

    1. Yes! Cardinal and gold for HP AND for my college USC! I knew it was a match made in heaven when my dream university also had Gryffindor house colors! I was like, yep, I’m meant to go there. Lol!

I’ll def look at Joan’s! That sounds really really cool. Right now I’m not sure if I can balance the blog and working on my manuscript and something else writing but I’ll def look at it to see what it entails and the commitment etc! Thanks so much for thinking of me!!!! 😊😍

  2. Great post, Nicolette! Those photos are stunning – one day, I’ll be good at book photography. Right now is not that day. xD I’ve been seeing Gambit around the blogosphere over the past month or so, and it seems like I need to get it on my TBR already!

I’ve actually already done the tag, but thanks for thinking of me! ❤

    1. I’m sorry Aimal! I don’t mean to pester you! I admit that I have a hard time keeping track of who’s done which tag. 😦

And thanks so much for liking the pictures, I had a whole “bookish” photo shoot, my husband laughed at me (in a good way bc he thinks my supreme nerdiness is cute, I guess). He thought it was funny that I set up a whole “photo shoot” area to take pictures of books. Even when I showed my dad, he thought they were cool but we both agreed that my nerd factor had risen about a good ten points. Lol >.<

      1. NOOOOOO, there’s no need to be sorry at all! I have a hard time with it too. It’s no bother whatsoever. <333

Oh, I totally get you about bookish nerdiness. I was taking photos for my latest book haul and my college roommate walked in, gave me a quizzical look and went back outside. I had to explain myself in great detail HAHA. xD

      2. Okay! ^.^ I just know you’re super busy with school! How’s the semester going btw!?! You’re almost done right? Here at ASU the students last day is like on Wednesday or Thursday of next week. (Which translation for me means FREEDOM!! Lol) 😀

      3. Omg, lucky! *cries* The semester is driving me crazy! My finals start a week from now and they end on the 22nd so I still have some ways to go. XD

      4. Omg I’m crying for you! The 22nd!?!? So
Unfair! Well I wish you luck anyway! If you need anything writing wise shoot me an email, not that you need any help with writing, lol, but even an extra set of eyes, I’m happy to look over your stuff.

  3. Oh look! A beautiful, time-consuming, and seasonal book tag just for me. Shucks! You shouldn’t have. :p

DYSTOPIA IN THE RAIN! *sings a funny tune*

Oh man! Could you image trading places with a character? Like: ‘Katniss, I got this. I volunteer!’ or ‘I’m Divergent! Crap… there’s Dauntless and Erudite coming to kill me again…’ or ‘Nah, Jonas. /I’m/ the Receiver. Bitch please, you ain’t special!’ :p Nope. That’s okay.

Bahaha! Who reads books with embarrassing covers? Oh wait… I did have to read ‘Maus’ in college, which had a giant swastika on the front… >.> That was awkward.

Ugh! So jealous of your ability to cook. Even following a recipe I’m such a failsaurus. (hee hee. I’m a new species of dinosaur. :p I need to stop drinking caffeine… -.-)

    1. OMG, I didn’t even think of Maus, which I was ‘supposed’ to read in college but didn’t so I actually read it and reviewed it a little while ago. Lol. I didn’t even think of that one being a good one for the embarrassing covers. But yeah, totally, that swastika would def get weird looks. And probably some beatings where I live. Yeah, come to think of it, I’m glad I didn’t leave the house with Maus.
Failsaurus!! I love new species of dinosaur, I actually wanted to be a paleontologist. *Switches to nerdy scientist voice, who is inevitably wearing large spectacles and a white lab coat, the lab coat is key here for this illustration* “It’s wonderful to have discovered you, Failsauraus. As a paleontologist, my life’s mission in finding a new species of dinosaur is complete, I can die in happiness.” (God, I’m not funny at all, am I?! Ugh, think I officially give up.)
So apparently, we both need to stop drinking caffeine, or we were meant to be besties that make jokes about dinosaurs. I vote for the latter. ^.^

    1. Me too! But inevitably, I’ll be a complete fail on those tags too and end up doing them in January. *SMH* That’s still winter, right? I don’t even know. Jenna was asking me about seasons in America and I was just like *hides in corner shamefully* “I have no clue”

      1. I know! I honestly am too. I think I need that seasonal schedule too. I told her I base the seasons off the weather and what I need to wear to cope with it. Vey arbitrary and not scientific in the least. 🙈

      2. WHAT!?!?!?! Winter goes all the way to MARCH!!?!?! OMG, I’m an uncultured swine. I thought winter ended in Feb. Like after Valentines day. And I thought Summer ended on my birthday, (Aug 25), yeah, I’m a narcissist like that. Oh, God, my whole world has just been turned upside down!
