Beautiful Blogger Award

Processed with VSCOcam with b5 preset

I want to thank Zezee for this nomination! I am so flattered to be nominated for this award.

Now, you may be wondering: “What does this award mean to you?”

Well, before we get into the details of the award, I’d like to take a moment to talk about blog awards and why I think they are important.

Blog awards mean:

(1) Someone is thinking of you, which is honestly just lovely.

(2) Someone appreciates what you do, and we all could use a little bit of encouragement, don’t you think?

(3) Someone thinks you deserve some recognition. *Celebrate!*

Blog awards are important because:

(1) It’s a chance to meet other people through the original poster’s taglist.

(2) It’s an opportunity to spread to love to people who you think deserve some recognition as well.

If you are genuine in your award nominations, which I think you always should be, then I think awards definitely have the power to be more than just a blog hop or linky. It’s a chance to connect and engage with your audience in a meaningful way. At least, that’s why this award means so much to me. ^.^

Now, on to the award!

The rules:

  1. Link to the blogger who took the time to nominate you.
  2. List seven random things about yourself.
  3. Nominate seven creative, beautiful bloggers.
  4. Notify the amazing people that you nominated for the award.

Seven Random Things About Me

  1. I’m a Virgo. I like things very orderly. However, I can be such a walking contradiction with this because sometimes I feel like my home is a land of squalor and filth because of how much I neglect to tidy up. (It’s probably not that bad. *reassuringly pats self on head*).
  2. I talk with my hands. A lot. So much so that I recommend people not to stand too close because they might get inadvertently thwapped in the face, in the gut, or in the you-know-where by an errant hand or elbow.
  3. This ties in with #2. I am a chronic over exaggerator and have a tendency to embellish stories all the time. Like, if I’m recounting my day to my husband, he’s grown accustomed to hearing things like “The horde ambushed me today. I almost died.” The translation for this in normal people language is, “Several students came into my office at the same time and I was very busy today.”
  4. I’m plus-size. I don’t know why I feel terrified to admit that. As if I’m scared the Gods of Fitness will descend upon me with their scrutiny or something? But for whatever reason, I feel like I should say it. I’m sure you can tell from my profile pic that I’m not at all fitness fiend and, in a weird way, I feel better about admitting that I don’t prioritize fitness as much as I’d like to. I don’t know, I guess I’d just rather not hide that. There’s something liberating about just putting this out there. *shrugs*
  5. I have two kids. I think everyone who follows me has gathered this by now. But if not, here it is: I’m a mom. I had my 4-year-old when I was in college and the 18 month old, well, 18 months ago, lol ^.^ (Wow, I’m a nerd.)
  6. Will this even matter to you? I don’t think so, but I’m gonna say it anyway though. I’m 25. A whole quarter, guys. My dad just turned 55 and it made me suddenly very aware of my age. In like a good way though, because, I love my dad. He’s like really cool and we’re more alike than I ever really gave him credit for growing up. I now know where I get my stubbornness and my do-it-yourself attitude from.
  7. Another random stat, because I’m running out of ideas here. I’m 5’7”. I always wanted to be super tall like Nicole Kidman and because I had such intense vertical goals, I refused to drink any caffeine until I was in the IB diploma program in high school and realized I couldn’t survive without coffee. My sister-in-law, who is my husband’s little sister (just to provide some context) is a Freshman in college and she’s this statuesque beauty of 5’10”. I totally envy her for it (not in a bad way though, I love her, she knows this), and I’m actually basing a character in my book off her build because she’s totally badass material.

I couldn’t limit this to just seven nominees. There are simply too many bloggers I know that I think deserve this nomination. With that being said, my nominees for The Beautiful Blogger Award are:

Annelisa @ Script Alchemy
Beverly @ In The Shadow of The Words – A Writer’s Journey
Bree @ Live. Learn. Write.
CW @ Read, Think, Ponder
Jenna @ Reading with Jenna
Jesse @ Books at Dawn
Julia @ Julia Grantham
Julie @ J. H. Books Blog
Kevin @ Kevin Ansbro
Melanie @ Melanie Noell Bernard
Trisha Ann @ The Bookgasm

*Don’t feel obligated to do a post for this award if you don’t want to, or ignore if you’ve already done it.*

Let's Talk

What is one totally random thing about you!? Share it with me, so I feel less rando today! ^.^

  1. Oo! I’ve been nominated for this adorable award! I love your philosophy on awards. It’s why I always try to nominate different people, to spread the awards, to make people realize that people pay attention to what they are doing. Plus it’s part of the Blogosphere community to support others. That’s why awards are so important. ^.^ (And I thank you for giving me the opportunity to not only introduce myself more to my readers [whether they want to know any more about me or not :p] and for allowing me to spread the award to others.)

Gods of Fitness! Hahaha! They already kidnapped me, Nicolette! Save me! :p And being plus-size has nothing to do with fitness. Some people have naturally larger frames: wider hips, bigger rib cages. Those people (me people) will never fit into itsy, bitsy, teeney, weeney bikinis. :p

Nerds for the win! ^.^ *slams gameboy color buttons*

Oh man! Height goals! Preach it girlfriend! All I wanted, /ALL/ I wanted in life was to be taller than my mother. I would’ve been fine with 5’8″ – 5’9″. That would’ve gotten me there. Did I reach it? No! Of course not. I’m a half inch shorter than my mother at 5′ 7″. Ugh! *headdesk* Life goals ruined!
(Now I just wear heels a lot. :p My feet deserve the torture. hee hee)

    1. Haha!! I will save you Melanie from those Fitness Gods!!! *borrows sword from main character in book, steals a dragon* Nicolette to the rescue!! ^.^ LMAO

And thank you for being so awesome btw. You’re right, plus-size doesn’t have anything to do with fitness, some people do have larger frames etc. But I used to be very fit (my husband argues too thin, but I tend to disagree). I would like to fit into those clothes once more but right now, I have my priorities focused on other things that are frankly more important to me, like my family and my book. The fitness priority isn’t at the top of the list right now, and that is definitely a personal decision (bc frankly I can’t handle packing more onto my plate right now).

Gameboy!! My parents just moved into their first house (yay for them!) and I asked my dad specifically to keep an eye out for my gameboy color!!

Yay for the 5’7” squad! We should have badges. (I seem to want badges for everything….lol). That is a pain though, I feel you. I don’t know how I’d feel if I were shorter than my mom who is 5’2”. She also wears heels ALL the time. 😀

      1. Haha! My hero! :p
I’ve never been super small. Even if I wanted to fit into smaller sizes, my rib cage won’t let me. It’s a permanent size 8 dress no matter what. Oh well. (I dun wanna be a twig anyway. I might snap.)
I get that! I’ve been in the process of setting priorities in my life and deciding what gets what amount of time. Exercise, though, is something I’ve been shoving into my day since I don’t have the family commitment at the moment. Gotta make it a habit while I can. :p (even went to 6am yoga this morning. hee hee.)
Oh man! So happy I still have my Gameboy color. :p It’s pink! Hee hee! I totally restarted my ‘Yellow’ version a while ago and want to keep playing, but I don’t the time! (That’s what I had to cut from my time slots… 😦
Oh my gosh! I would die if I was shorter than I am now. This is bad enough! (We could get badges. :p We’ll be loaded in badges like girl scouts or something. Hee hee!)

      2. Lol, you see, size 8 is so perfect to me!! Keep up the hard work! Yay for 6am yoga ^.^
OMG, don’t even get me started. I want a Red Rising Badge, I want a “Team Warner” badge, I want a short person badge, a writer badge, I want ALL the badges! ^.^ (I’m glad that I can share my supreme nerd with you, I know you won’t judge!)

      3. Haha! Perfect? That seems a bit drastic. :p I don’t think perfect exists. Hee hee.
Thank you! Yoga was interesting, but enjoyable (when I wasn’t yawning. Haha!)
Oh dear! Lots of badges. We’ll get you a little sash or a vest to put all your badges on and you can just say you’re part of Troop Geek! :p Love it!
Judge? What’s this judgement of which you speak? We do no such thing on the internet when it comes to geeks and nerds! This is where we unite! This is our fandom! THIS IS SPARTA! Wait- >.>

      4. Bahaha! A comedian?! Only if people are okay with me being super offensive. :p My humor can be rather dark, which is why it takes a certain person to get me. In that sense, you get me, Nicolette! We’re like… born of the same fandom or geekdom or star or whatever!
Or maybe it’s just fate that we found each other! 0.0

      1. I thought I was 3 years older than you, geez, I have the worst memory.
Lol, but being this ‘ahead’ ain’t no cake walk. Let me tell you. Don’t get me wrong, I love my life, my family and where I am now. But it’s definitely been one hell of a climb to get here.

      2. Haha. I get where you’re coming from. Believe YOU me. I didn’t want to do either of these things, have children or get married. But for me it went beyond being able to handle it. I honestly thought I was just too selfish. And in many ways, I still am. But it’s something I have to fight against bc though I am selfish, I love my kids and their needs will always come before mine. (I just didn’t think I was capable of being ‘more’ than myself before I had no choice but to step up to the plate.)
Sometimes we can’t be prepared for what life springs upon us, and sometimes we never know what we can truly handle until the jump is forced on us. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is that you never know. I mean, you might not have kids and continue being glorious and fabulous as you are now. Or, one day, you’ll know what it’s like to wake up to fevers on little heads, runny noses being wiped on your sleeves, having the shit scared out of you as a pair of glittering eyes stands at the head of your bead, watching you as you sleep, waiting to see if you’re awake (even though you’re clearly not) and all the other endless worries of being a parent. ^.^ *shrugs*
Though, if you ever did have kids, I’d sure as hell like to see you write about it, because I have a feeling you’d make parenthood look hilarious and fabulous, both things that I fail at on a daily basis.

      3. I literally can’t even think that far ahead. I kind of want to find someone just as fabulous as I am first. And if, and I really do mean IF kids become a thing for me in the future, it will be a hell of a process just to get one.

So right now I will enjoy my life, and continue to do so 😀

    1. You guys are like giants! I’m 5’1″!
And Jesse, I share yout philosphy about getting married. I’m probably gonna save that on my 30’s or at least if I’ve travelled the world. But who knows what might happen. Haha!

  2. You’re welcome! 🙂
I love your discussion on blog awards. I see them as great ways to discover new bloggers and just to highlight the work people have done. I blog for myself. It’s a hobby I picked up but it is nice to have my work recognized in some way sometimes.

All the Virgos I know are very hardworking and neat, or if not neat, very clean but a little untidy. Lol. I’m sure your place isn’t as bad as you think it is.
And ditto Books at Dawn above. I’m 5’8, I think, but I’m also convinced I’m 6’0. I think I’m so tall and I like it up here.

    1. Zezee!!! Thanks again so much for the nomination for the award! I agree, I definitely blog for me, but recently I’ve been blogging to connect to others and I love that is what awards do! ^.^

Haha! I did just finish cleaning up one section of the house and said to myself, “Now, if only I never come over here, it’ll stay this way.” And then both of my little monsters proceeded to roll right through with a wagon of legos and turn the nice clean spot into their fortress of doom. HAHA!

I envy you and Jesee @ Books at Dawn one inch over me. I honestly do! But we should take over this world! I agree. The only time I ever feel tall is when I am with my BFF (who is actually coming to visit me from LA this coming week). She is 5 feet tall. That is all. She rounds up to 5’1” but it’s a dirty lie. Lol. I also feel tall when I’m with my extended family on my mom’s side. Suddenly I’m the giant standing at 6 feet lording over them, or maybe it’s because I’m so loud. *shrugs* ^.^

      1. You’re welcome!
Lol , yes, let’s take over!
Hahahaa “fortress of doom” That’s what usually happens. You clean up and minutes later someone comes along and mess it up again. Happens often in my house.

  3. Nic! Thank you for this! *huug*

There’s seriously nothing wrong about being a plus-size. You don’t have to feel afraid about admitting it. Tbh, I’m super skinny in the most unflattering (Asian built) way but we don’t have to explain ourselves bc the world shouldn’t make a a big fuss about it. I mean, the society’s just so wrong about sticking to just one definition of supermodel beauty.

And LOL I can absolutely relate to youe exagerating things. I’d be like “Gosh this ramen’s so damn good I can live on this forever!” when after two tries, I never want to give it another go again. Hahaha!

    1. You’re so welcome!! ❤️❤️ And thank you for being so sweet! You’re right about plus size and as I was telling Melanie in my responses to her, I am not prioritizing fitness right partially bc I already feel like I have enough on my plate. In the meantime, you’re so right about being accepting of who I am now and not sticking to society’s definition of what beautiful is. ❤️
Yes!! I say that about sushi! (Except I really meant that, I think I really could eat sushi everyday for the rest of my life). But I’ll do it with sweets and while I enjoy sweets I actually eat them very rarely and not very much so it’s ironic when I eat cake and say something so absurd! Lmao!!

      1. Because you’re beautiful and the world knows it! Your husband will testify ❤
Yessss I too can eat sushi 5ever but just on selected meat. We're sushi buddies! *high five*

  4. NICOLETTE!! ♥♥ Thank you for the nomination! That’s so sweet of you – I feel the warm and fuzzies. :3

My sister is a Virgo! She’s the best person in the whole world and I dote her so much. XD Maybe that’s why we click, hehe. ♥

And (I had to convert it all) but you are tall! At least to me. I’m about 5 feet! Everyone towers over me. I was shortest in every class in high school! So when they said, GET IN HEIGHT ORDER, I knew where to go immediately, ahhaha!! And more so, it’s funny because my boyfriend is about 6 feet. So there’s quite a difference between us! XD If I want height, I wear my fave heels (I think they’re called Jeffrey Campbells Foxywood??)! But I recently twisted my ankle so I can’t wear heels indefinitely. I shall be forever short. :’)

Also Nic, you are perfect sized. ♥ And always will be!

    1. Yay for the Virgos! Your sister and I both being Virgos now makes it all make more sense. And now, I am convinced. We are sisters too. Lol. Just kidding!
I always felt so short but to make matters worse I had a serious and very ridiculous short person complex (still sort of do). It wasn’t cute. It was horribly snobby. I remember a guy friend being ver put off that I genuinely thought I was taller than him when he was like 5’10”. Apparently a three inch height difference wasn’t enough for me to register that I was shorter. I vaguely remember a rather dumb fight over height differences and then someone’s feelings being hurt (probably his). My husband is 6 feet and I KNOW he’s taller than me. I call him my giant and rather than submit myself to my rather irrational fear of heights and just step on top of a damn chair to get something, I call him over. Hehe. (He loves it. He doesn’t know this yet, but he totally does. 😉)
Omg! I died laughing, “get in height order”! Yes, I think my best friend would know exactly what that is like she is also your exact height! Very petite, so freaking adorable.
Omg, so I keep pestering my best friend to describe to me what it is like to be with a guy (standing next to him, hugging him, etc.) when there is a foot in height difference. She says she can’t help me, even though these are questions for a very good cause *coughs* um yeah it’s just for my book lol. Hehe. BUT, since YOU know, maybe you can help? No pressure. Lol. I could go into my whole speech I go into with her but I think this response has already, officially, become an essay! 😄
Perfect sized! Awww!! I love you! You’re the best and the sweetest and the everything-est! ❤️❤️❤️

      1. WE COULD BE BOOKISH SISTERS. ♥

HAHAH OH MY GOSH, ME TOO! Sometimes when I imagine myself, I always imagine myself taller or the same height as people when that is never(!) the case! LOL I do that too, sort of! I’m never able to reach the things on the top shelf when I go shopping – that’s why I have a tall boyfriend. 😉

OF COURSE I CAN HELP! I’d be more than happy to! Just throw any questions my way through Twitter or anything. ♥

I love you too!! NO YOU’RE THE BESTEST AND SWEETEST!! ♥♥

  5. I’m a Virgo too!! We should start a club! I see you’ve already got a shorties club with Jesse, which I could totally join since I’m 5’3ish. I WISH I was 5’7, you lucky duck! But yes, I also extremely organised but my room is a total mess. Just clutter everywhere but I will go through a discarding process soon because I’ll be moving and it’ll be an awesome time to apply that KonMari method! Also, your kids are the cutest and I’m already looking forward to next year’s Halloween costumes!

    1. Yay for all the Virgos in the house!! And the shorties! I think I’m going to make those badges, lol, jk (or am I? Hehe)
Clutter is my number one nemesis! It preys on me! I’m still slowly going through the house using the KonMari method and it’s working but the process is sooo extended bc the one day we got the bulk of it done was when the kids were out of the house at their grandparents’. No such luck since then unfortunately. Oh well, it’ll happen. Eventually. Slowly. Surely….
Aww! Thanks! Those little monsters keep me young and make me old all at the same time, gotta love them! I want to do a better job of coordinating my Halloween with them next year, though knowing me I’ll need to start planning it three months in advance so it actually gets done. Lol. I think a family theme would be cute. Like the baby could be a dragon. Audrey could be like a dragon slayer. I don’t know what I would be, a sorceress, maybe? Or we could steal the cast from Six of Crows and no one one the face of the plant would have any idea who we’re dressed up as. Lol.

      1. But those are the best costumes! The ones where nobody knows who you are haha. I dunno. I’ve never celebrated Halloween so no idea what’s good. I would totally want to be a dragon except I’d look super silly because I’m a grown woman HAHA.

      2. HAHA!!! Right!?! I’d love to be a dragon too, but I know people would give me that look of “is she one something?” IDK, if I could rope my husband into something then I think that would be awesome. He let me dress him up as a tiger on year, let me put tiger makeup on him and everything….He was relentlessly picked on by his family for it, but whatevs I thought he looked cool.

      3. OMG! That’s super cute! I was going to have Audrey be Red Riding Hood and Baby Kevin be the Wolf last year, but that plan fell through obvs…BUT you’ve got my mind spinning already with ideas! ^.^
