Jenna @ Reading with Jenna tagged me for this and gave me the ingenious idea of combining the two Christmas book tags that are floating around into one blog post since they are so similar.
Dashing Through the Snow
Joey @ Thoughts and Afterthoughts caught up to me with this tag first. Be sure to check out his blog also, he’s one of my favorite book bloggers out there.
❄️ Name a book you would like to see under your Christmas tree.
Fellow blogger, writer and one of my newest critique partners, Bree @ Live. Learn. Write. recently gave a raving recommendation for A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E Schwab. I already wanted to read it, but when this ultimate Throne of Glass fangirl told me that ADSOM beat out Queen of Shadows on her list for best book read in 2015, this book found itself quickly scaling up my TBR and earning itself a lovely priority * next to its name.
❄️ A book you’ll be reading during the Christmas season?
I’ve been caught up with critiquing lately (which I love because I’m actually preferring to read my CPs manuscripts than published books ^.^) and as a result my current reads are going very very slow. So I’ll probably still be chugging along in Throne of Glass and listening to the audiobook of The Dream Thieves this Christmas.
❄️ Favorite Christmas movie
All of them!! I’m a huge sucker for Christmas flicks. I also cry during all of them, it doesn’t matter if it’s a comedy, at some point I’ll still manage to cry.
Old School Fav: It’s a Wonderful Life
90s Fav: Miracle on 34th Street
2000s Fav: The Holiday
10s Fav: A Princess for Christmas
❄️ To give or to receive
Can I say both? Because I’m not going to lie, I love hand making gifts for my friends and family. I love making someone else feel special and loved. But I also really like receiving a gift that has so clearly been picked out for me, one that is so perfect for me that I know the person giving it thought, “Oh man, I know she’d just LOVE that!”.
❄️ Do you like snow?
So this question is a bit complicated for me. On the one hand, I do like the snow. I like to look at it and I like to play in it. But about two years ago, my husband and our daughter tagged along with our best friend on a trip to Big Bear. (This was when we still lived in Cali.) The snow made the roads a bit scary for me, I had never been on the road where the driving conditions required chains and Audrey was still very young so the sound bothered her the whole ride up. Suffice to say, it was a hellish ride. When we got to our cabin the driveway was snowed in and we had to hike through knee high snow to get our stuff inside only to be greeted by a heater that wasn’t working. Long story short, I think a piece of me learned to hate snow a little during that trip.
❄️ Name a character you would like to spend Christmas with.
I’m going to cheat and pick the whole Raven boy crew. Of course Blue and I would be chilling while the boys got up to some mischief, we’d have to interfere at some point, but that sounds like a pretty normal Christmas in my house to begin with. My two munchkins would probably antagonize the hell out of Ronan and at some point they’d both want to pet Chainsaw, lol. I can also just picture Gansey (ever the gentleman) making sure everyone is taken care, while I just sit back, relax and enjoy the show.
❄️ What fictional place would you like to spend Christmas at?
I know everyone is saying this, but it’s because Hogwarts is the best place to spend Christmas! In both the books and the movies it was the most enchanting place and time of the year. Don’t even lie, you know you want some of that food! ^.^
❄️ Fondest Christmas memory
When I was a senior in High School, my parents, some extended family and I stayed at a beach house in North Carolina during the Christmas season. It was sort of an odd time to rent a beach house, but it was cheaper during off-season and surprisingly nice despite the cold. Anyway, one morning I took my yorkie out with me for a run and since nobody was out on the beach yet I let him off his leash. (Which I usually didn’t do because he was notorious for taking off and licking people to death.) Once he was off his leash, it was like racing a jackrabbit. He was so fast. We were so free. It was marvelous. That moment formed a memory that I didn’t realize I’d carry with me for years and still do to this day. Sometimes when I’m stressed or experiencing a bout of insomnia, I think of that time and a feeling of peacefulness will wash over me.
❄️ Can you say “Christmas Tree” 10 times fast in a row (pronouncing it correctly)?
‘Tis the Season
Aimal @ Bookshelves and Paperbacks also caught me for this tag and I adore her! She designs her own graphics, which I think are just the cutest and her discussions are some of my favorite to read. Follow her!
❄️ Do you have a favorite winter read?
Nope. Not yet. Maybe next year though. ^.^
❄️ Find a book with blue on the cover.
Assassin’s Blade. I love the soft feel of the cover too.
❄️ Find a book you’d use as a star on a Christmas tree!
I’m going to pick Brett Michael Orr’s new release The Bureau of Time. The silver and red are perfect Christmas-y colors and would look stunning as the topper to a tree.
The premise also promises lots of action-y awesomeness, go read the synopsis on Brett’s site. It’s pretty darn epic. ^.^
I also wouldn’t mind if Santa wanted to gift this book to me this year either…(Santa, if you’re reading this, now you know…)
❄️ Pick one fictional place that would be perfect for a winter vacation.
The Ice Court from Six of Crows…minus the prison and bigotry against Grisha and all. Basically I’m just looking at all those ice-y/wintery descriptions and how lovely they all sounded. Make it a nice inviting place and I’ll visit Fjerda any day.
❄️ Pick one fictional character you’d take with you on your winter vacation.
If I’m going up to the homeland, then I’m taking Mathias with me. He can give me a tour and make sure I don’t fall through some thin ice.
❄️ Name one book on your wish list this year!
Aside from ADSOM, see 1st answer from Dashing Through the Snow, I’d also like Santa to bring me Air Awakens by Elise Kova.
❄️ Favorite holiday drink, treat, and movie?
I love Starbucks’ Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa. I also love popcorn anytime of the year, it doesn’t matter that it’s the holidays and see above for all the Christmas movies I end up crying through each year ^.^
❄️ Tag! You’re it! ❄️
Seeing that Christmas is literally right around the corner and considering the fact that I’m the tag queen and all but not wanting to overwhelm my regular tag buddies, I welcome anyone who hasn’t done this tag yet to consider themselves officially tagged by me!
Have a Happy Christmas!
