Today’s Top Ten Tuesday theme is “Spring TBR”. And let me tell you, this topic is sooo my jam! I am quite literally obsessed with compiling TBRs for myself! I kid you not, I have this massive excel spreadsheet with a bunch of books that I’m anticipating and it’s kind of an issue because I have problems prioritizing which books I want to read next. >.< Yes, I’m a total dork, yes, I realize that absolutely no one is surprised right now. ^.^
What makes MY TBR glorious and enviable and why would you want to steal it, you wonder? Well, my loyal penguin, I’m so over-the-moon happy that you asked.
You see, this year I’m trying to focus my bookish energies on reading a mixture of BOTH amazing contemporary and spellbinding sci-fi/fantasy. And that’s what makes my Spring TBR so amazing. You see, it is almost a perfect balance of the two! (I say almost becuase the dragon at home needed ONE EXTRA fantasy book. Have beef with that? Don’t BLAME me!! Talk to the dragon! >.<
As I side note: You’ll notice that I didn’t select any June releases. With so many books coming out in May, I knew I’d need some time to catch up, hence no June picks.
And yes, you’ll also notice that I assigned myself a reading schedule. Will I follow it? Maybe…..*shifty eyes* Maybe not. The obsessive planner in me just HAD to see the weeks of Spring lined up, and yes, I know I cheated by adding in this week, because Spring doesn’t actually start until March 20th (thanks to Jesse @ Books at Dawn for teaching me the seasons, I had no idea the seasons “started” on specific dates until last year >.<).
But whatever, adding the extra week just makes this TBR even more epic becuase it’s organized, planny, balanced, full of amazingness and well, see for yourself!
1. Week of March 14 : The Winner’s Curse
The controversy over the covers being changed first caught my attention because it was such a big deal amongst book bloggers. Personally, I think it’s not okay to change the cover when that’s not who the character is for the sake of trying to make her look tougher.
However, being honest, I would’t have picked this book up judging the book by this cover alone. Big poofy dresses just aren’t my thing. I didn’t wear one for prom and I don’t get the appeal. Her hand positioning to me is too “damsel in distressy” for me as well, and I just seems like I might not like her if she’s going to be all “ohhh, save me.”
However, a lot of my blogging friends LOVE this series and it’s because they love it and they love the protagonist that I want to read it! (And no, I don’t like the new cover either, fyi. Neither of the covers are my jam.)
2. Week of March 21: A Court of Thorns and Roses
I still need to catch up on ToG. *cringes* Don’t throw the books at me, I have them I just haven’t picked the up! (I know, terrible excuses!
Anyway, catching up on this new series seemed less daunting considering there’s only the one until the next one comes out in May. Hence my excuses continue!!
I’m also curious about this “abusive” relationship that some people complain about. Is it really abusive? IDK, I sort of find that hard to believe. I know I’ll just have to see for myself though, won’t I?
3. Week of March 28: The Year We Fell Apart
I totally forgot what this one is about and I like it that way.
The title feels spoilery enough and I don’t want to be spoiled any more than is reasonable, i.e, for me no level of spoiled is reasonable.
With that said, the cover is beautiful, I love the blue and green tones and I hope that sets the tone for a really beautiful contemporary story.
4. Week of April 4: Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda
I’ve heard soooo many things about this book and it actually does kill me a little inside that I’ve postponed reading this for any length of time!
I really want to read about Simon’s experience, I want to read the romance, I want all the quirkiness, I want all of it!
I’ve realized that I just need to read faster so I can get to this one sooner. That’s a perfectly reasonable solution I think! >.<
5. Week of April 11: Rebel of the Sands
First off just look at that cover! *drools*
Second off, I’ve heard amazing things, the protagonist is a gunslinging sassy bundle of fun, there’s magic, and horses, and a devastatingly handsome dude with a gun also? Yeah, sure, I’ll bite.
I’ve seen some early reviews and people have complained about a magic system that isn’t explained enough for them. I typically hate tons of explanations and info-dumping so I have a feeling this book will suit me and my tastes just fine.
It sounds like an adventure where there’s fighting, banter, romance, more banter, oh and romance. I have to have the romance. It sounds really good.
6. Week of April 18 : The Great American Whatever (Release day 29-Mar-16)
I have so many feels from reading the synopsis!!! *cries in a corner*
My heart goes out to Quinn and the things that he’s faced. All I want to do is give him hug.
I want to read this because I feel like it’ll be a great coming of age story from a guy who falls in love for the first time and learns how to accept himself in the process. I like the promise that he must learn how to take charge of his own life because I think it’s an important lesson to be learned.
7. Week of April 25: Glass Sword
There is soooo much hate towards Red Queen and now Glass Sword. Personally, I just don’t get it. I loved Red Queen. I don’t see the issues that people bring up. The chief complaint is that RQ was unoriginal. Yeah, so is every other book we read. Like, literally, there is no such thing as an original idea anymore. It’s all about how someone executes ideas that have already been put out there and I stand by the fact that I thought RQ did a good job of it.
Anyway, without getting all ranty, I want to read GS. I think I’ll enjoy it because I loved the first book and I still have ZERO clue what Aveyard did to piss off every blogger on the face of this planet, so if anyone would like to clue me in, that’d be nice.
8. Week of May 2: The Raven King (Release Day 26-Apr-16)
I’m not even going to lie, I started reading the Raven Cycle series BECAUSE OF THE HYPE over the release of THIS BOOK RIGHT HERE!!!
I’m so freakin glad that I did too. The first three books are magical, mysterious, theyre about friendship, fast cars (sort of, lol), a group of angsty boys and one seriously snarky girl who I wish were real!
I will never regret being a cover snob. It is because I was drolly for this cover that I made the best decision ever to met the coolest crew of characters and I’m just going to be soo sad that it’s ALL over with this book. *cries desperately*
9. Week of May 9: The Rose & the Dagger (Release Day 3-May-16)
When the Facebook page for PenguinTeen released an excerpt of The Wrath and the Dawn last year, I had no idea I was going to fall in love THIS MUCH with a book.
I read through TWATD soooo fast, my heart aching with every page turn, not knowing that it wasn’t a standalone to come to the end feeling on the edge of a MASSIVE GAPING CLIFF!!!
I have been desperately, not so patiently, waiting for this sequel since March of last year! And it will finally, OH THANK MERCY, be here in May!! ^.^
10. Week of May 16: A Court of Mist and Fury (Release Day 3-May-16)
I’m 99.99% sure that I’ll enjoy ACOTAR.
The .01% chance is a buffer to account for if a grizzly bear eats me in the time that it takes me to read ACOTAR and ACOMAF being released.
That is all.
Oh, and I’m in it for the hype. I feel a compulsion to catch up to the raving fandoms and this is one of them.
11. Week of May 23: The Crown’s Game (Release day 3-May-16)
SO MANY LEVELS OF WAAAANNNTT!!!!!
The synopsis is so teasey and I fear a bit spoilery so I’m not going to read it again and hopefully forget all about it and just pick this one up blind when the time comes because this is going to be SOOO good!
I can feel it. I can already feel the tension.
I can already see the romance and all the twisty plot things that this book promises. I can see it and I want it now!!! *grabby hands*
12. Week of May 30: Love & Gelato (Release Day 3-May-16)
OMG, just give it to me already.
Like, the cover simply LOOKS delicious AND it appeals to my love for flat design. >.<
However, the promise of love, ice cream, baked goods and the uncovering of long held secrets has me beyond super interested. Throw in a bit of tragedy and a hint of romance and I’m down for the ride.
Plus, it takes place in Italy. So count me in!
13. Week of Jun 6: Carry On
I haven’t read Fangirl, but this book just sounds sooooo adorable and amazing and full of quirky goodness.
I love geeky, nerdiness. (Because I am a total nerd myself.) And the whole premise of this book being the fanfic the chick was writing in another book is so cute to me.
Oh, yeah, and I heard the romance was/is epic and I can never pass up on one of THOSE! >.<
14. Week of Jun 13: Dreamology (Release Day 12-April-16)
I’m all about dreams.
I’m all about meeting the love of your life in dreams. I’m all about meeting said boy from your dreams. I’m all about said boy being a disappointment IRL. Lol.
After all, my WIP is titled Dreamweaver >.<
Suffice to say, I’m obsessed with the concept of dreams!!
This book promises an interesting twist on a similar concept that I mess around with in Dreamweaver and I simply MUST dive into it and see for myself!
Planning ahead like this gives me ample time to pass this handy little list off to my lovely people at the library. Now I must sit back and wait in hopeful anticipation to see which requests they’ll fulfill like the merry elves of Santa that they are and which I’ll need to preorder. ^.^
What’s on your Spring TBR? Do we have any in common? Will you be stealing some of my picks? (Come on, deep down, you know you want to! >.<)
