The only real issues I have with a Disney fancast is the lack of diversity. Newer Disney is getting better, but still, the options are pretty limited. Instead of ragging on Disney for that and focusing on it, I decided to focus my fancast on capturing the heart of my characters with the heart of Disney characters. After doing my fancast, HOW DID I NOT SEE THE PARALLELS BETWEEN THEM BEFORE??!?! I don't even know. *shakes head* Nix: Belle. Why? She's brave. She stands up for what she believes in and doesn't back down. She loves fiercely and fights for those she loves! Battle-scene at the castle anyone? Lastly, she doesn't quite fit in and that's ok with her. (Add a sword, a few daggers and a bow strapped across her back and you've got Nix in a nutshell.) Malachi: Flynn Rider. Why? He's a criminal. He's got the smolder. He has like no friends. He has a past that he doesn't want to talk about. I mean, can someone please say "baggage!"?. And beneath all of that, he's like this huge softy who winds up risking his life for his love interest. Tristan: Aladdin. Why? He has a heart of gold. He keeps his promises (he freed the Genie!!), He understands the importance of mutual respect and choice. Though he deceives Jasmine he comes clean in the end and respects Jasmine's right to choose, even if that choice isn't him! Evelyn: Ana. Why? She has a literal heart of ice. Lol. She has a deep sense of loyalty to family and would do anything to protect those she loves, even if that means removing herself from the equation. #junelitwrit #writersofinstagram #authorsofinstagram #amwriting #amwritingfantasy
Enemies to lovers is my #1 guilty pleasure. It's my favorite book trope because it's also kind of my life story. The TLDR version is that I started talking to my husband by heckling him. I know, WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME?!?! To be fair, it was all in good fun. I was in the Air Force ROTC program and he was in the Marine Corps ROTC program. So it was all in the name of inter-branch camaraderie! Anyway, lots of heckling and bantering and ten years later, and we have two kids, one going to 1st grade next year in fact! I know what you're thinking, "How did I get so old!?!" Flashback to two weekends ago while we were visiting my parents in Florida. The hubs and I went for a hike together. Now, mind you, I had to practically drag the man out of the house. Yet, once we were out there, in the literal SWAMP, he outpaced me seven strides to my one. And that good old banter of those golden days--those days when we were kidless and had no real reason to be so stinking tired!--that competitive nature came back. With two kids and the daily grind of work and feeding and caring for a family and the near constant exhaustion that accompanies being a mom (I can hear the hallelujers from my fellow mammas!), I confess, I had sort of lost sight of that spark. In that moment, it made me appreciate how much we love each other. We may not have a lot in common with each other, in the traditional sense. We don't both enjoy the same kinds of activities. We've never been one of those couples who can run down a list together and check a bunch of boxes of all our shared likes and dislikes. But we've always had one important thing in common, and that's how much we love each other and how hard we've always been willing to work to make our relationship work. I guess that's why I'll always enjoy characters who start out deeply disliking each other but end up falling for the other. At the end of the day, I'll always admire a pair of people who can see their equal in another and who will want to be challenged by that equal, and who are willing to go the distance with that person no matter what. #junelitwrit #authorsofinstagram #writersofinstagram #writerscommunity #writerlife
